Griff Green has been a prominent figure in the Ethereum ecosystem since 2015 and holds the distinction of earning the world’s first academic degree in digital currency—a Master’s degree awarded in 2016.
Griff played a pivotal role as the Community Manager for Slock.it and TheDAO, helping shape the community around TheDAO and leading the comprehensive crisis response following TheDAO Hack. He co-founded the White Hat Group, which secured 10% of the total ETH supply at risk during the hack. A year later, the group also rescued $210 million worth of crypto assets during the Parity Multisig Hack and other vulnerabilities. Through the White Hat Group, he contributed to security audits for major projects including Aragon and MakerDAO.
In 2016, Griff co-founded Giveth, a revolutionary crypto donation platform that empowers individuals and communities to drive transparent, decentralized change. He went on to co-found DAppNode in 2018 and The Commons Stack in 2019, which later launched the Token Engineering Commons in 2022. In 2021, he co-founded General Magic, a web3 design and development studio focused on impact-driven web3 projects. Under General Magic, Griff led the creation of Pairwise (a tool for deep funding), Unicorn.eth (a simple and safe wallet), and q/acc, a protocol for safe tokenization.
Beyond these core initiatives, Griff has contributed to a wide range of other projects, including iden3, Polygon Hermez, and BrightID, and continues to serve in an advisory capacity to several of them. He is also a top delegate for key governance protocols such as ENS, Arbitrum, Gitcoin, and Optimism.
A passionate community builder, Griff has also led two crypto-centric Burning Man camps: DECENTRAL and BlockHaus.
Griff's deep commitment to the future of capital allocation stems from a vision of building better systems for funding public goods—systems that operate from the bottom up, in contrast to the traditional top-down approaches of governments. His work is motivated by a belief that crypto offers a path to more equitable, community-driven capital flows. Through the development of new tools and mechanisms, Griff aims to advance capital allocation models that serve people more effectively than any government ever has.
